Abstract
This folder contained material that was used for conducting the pedagogical part of the research in which the material was tested having students carry out the experiment. This part of the research made use of several sources of research data:
- The actions of the students were recorded while carrying out

the experiment using the computer program ‘Camtasia’. With this program it was possible to record their voices, record a film of their faces using a webcam and also record the actions on the screen by capturing the screen-dumps continuously. The synchronized voice, face and screen-dumps were converted to mpeg4 movies and stored in the folder ‘camtasia’ (containing separate folders for the ten couples of students). The movies of the couple 040706 are converted with a higher resolution than the movies of the other couples. The lower resolution is not a problem since the audio of the recording is the most important part of this research-source and the answers of the students are also available through the database.
- The datafiles of the students are also stored in the camtasia-folders.
- While conducting the experiment the students were interrupted several times and asked what they had been doing and what the next steps would be. This had to give insight into whether the students knew what they were doing and why they were doing that. The recording of these interviews can be viewed by browsing the camtasia files. The folder ‘interviews’ contains the completely written out protocols of the interruptions in the file ‘onderbrekingen.doc’
- After finishing the experiment (conducted in pairs of students) the students were interviewed. The recordings of these interviews are stored in the ‘camtasia’ folder. The written out protocols of these interviews are stored in the folder ‘interviews’ in the file ‘interviews.doc’.
- After finishing the experiment the students also had to fill in a questionnaire that focused on how they had experienced conducting the experiment. These questionnaires were filled in individually. The answers to these questions are stored in the sheet ‘beleving’ of the excel-sheet ‘verwerking.xls’
Verwerking.xls also contains an overview of the marked parts in the interviews and interruptions. Also the answers to the questions in the site were processed in the sheet. In the sheet the answers of the students (to the questions in the site, the interviews and the interruptions) were categorized by using pre-defined categories of to be expected answers. By rating the answers this sheet played an important role in processing the data and formulating the conclusions. The processed data and the conclusions that can be drawn out of it are described in chapter 5 and 6 of the thesis. Chapter 5 focuses on whether the students indeed followed the hypothesized learning path described in the didactical structure of chapter 3. Chapter 6 has a more technical focus by describing whether the tools that were added to the website to support the students have functioned.
