Fungal Genomics

Abstract

In the past two decades, genomics has developed into a formidable tool to study various aspects of fungi. New sequencing technologies have considerably driven down the costs, making genome sequencing available to a large group of researchers. However, gene prediction, functional analysis, and comparative genomics remain challenging. This chapter will describe advances in technologies underlying fungal genome sequencing, annotation, and analysis. Furthermore, the impact of fungal genome sequencing is illustrated using examples from biotechnology: natural products, carbohydrate-active enzymes, mushroom development, and plant interactions.
