Abstract
CASE 1: Following 2 years of rectal blood loss, a 31-year-old male was diagnosed with ulcerative pancolitis in 1978. Initial treatment consisted of both topical and systemic 5-aminosalicylic acids [5-ASAs], and remission was achieved. In both 1984 and 1986 he was hospitalised due to exacerbations necessitating treatment with intravenous corticosteroids.
