Deployment pathways for decarbonising industry and electricity generation: System analysis of the techno-economic feasibility and implementation of CO2 capture and transport for different geographical scales

Abstract

The main objective of this thesis is to assess promising deployment pathways for CO2 capture and transport in industry and the electricity generation sector. To meet this objective, the following three research questions were formulated: I. What are cost effective CO2 capture and transport infrastructure configurations and deployment pathways in industrial plants and zones over time? II. What are the drivers, barriers and synergies of CO2 capture and pipeline transport infrastructure configurations over time at the local, national and international level? III. How can CCS be optimally deployed over time in a broader portfolio of energy efficiency measures and low‐carbon energy technologies, both from a cost and emission reduction perspective?
