Body-relatedness in severe somatoform disorder: Evaluation of the Dresden Body Image Questionnaire

Abstract

Background: A core feature of somatoform disorder is the troubled relation of patients with their body. Patients generally have difficulty to acknowledge and understand bodily signals and to adapt their behavior accordingly. Assessment of this complex relation to the body could be of great use in research and clinical practice. The Dresden Body Image Questionnaire (DBIQ) targets a broad range of body related aspects and measures body acceptance, vitality, physical contact, sexual fulfillment and self-aggrandizement.
