Jacob van Hervelt. An unknown medical doctor from the 17th century This article is a short contribution to the biography of Jacob van Hervelt, who drew the attention of his contemporaries through his book Geneeskundige aanmerkingen (Medical case-histories). This book offers a good opportunity to learn something about the daily practice of a medical doctor outside the major towns of the Dutch Republic. For a while his polemics with Stephan Blankaart got him a place on the national scene of 17th-century Dutch medicine.
