Abstract

Would you perhaps be the new professional? Translating the vision on social work towards the new professional’s action With the introduction of the “Wet Maatschappelijke Ondersteuning” (Social Support Act) and the government programme “Welzijn Nieuwe Stijl” (New Style Social Work), social work organizations in The Netherlands are stimulated to re-assess their ways of working. Dutch society is transforming from a welfare state into a participation state, which means that citizens will have to be more in control of their own lives, play an active part in their communities and actively make use of their social networks. This article focuses on the kind of support that is needed from the social worker and the competences required to realise this transformation.

De omslag van de visie over welzijn naar het handelen van de nieuwe professional Met de introductie van de Wmo en het uitvoeringsprogramma Welzijn Nieuwe Stijl, worden welzijnsorganisaties gestimuleerd om hun manier van werken en de prioriteiten die zij stellen aan de geboden ondersteuning te herzien. De Nederlandse samenleving maakt een ommezwaai van welzijnsstaat naar participatiestaat, wat betekent dat burgers meer verantwoordelijkheid moeten nemen voor hun leven, maar ook voor hun omgeving en sociale netwerk. Dit artikel gaat in op de ondersteuning die nodig is om deze ommezwaai te realiseren en op de consequenties die dit heeft op het werk en de houding van de sociale professional.
