LES FIGURES DE L’AUTEUR ET DU TRADUCTEUR CHEZ AMADOU HAMPÂTÉ BÂ ET AHMADOU KOUROUMA

Abstract

This article studies the relationship between two literary figures (the author-creator on the one hand and the translator on the other) in Amadou Hampâté Bâ’s and Ahmadou Kourouma’s narratives. The comparison between these two writers reveals some of the transformations the French and Francophone literary field has undergone since the 1970s. While Hampâté Bâ (1900-1991) saw himself both as the translator of pre-existing oral texts and as an interpreter helping two radically different cultural universes to get to know each other, Kourouma (1927-2003) tried to create more complex linguistic identities. The confrontation of these two models is one of the consequences of the emergence of the postcolonial moment.
