Abstract

Preventing evictions Background. An eviction is a dramatic event. There is little knowledge on the process that precedes an eviction and how to prevent evictions. Method. An exploratory descriptive study based on seven case studies. Results. The process of a evictions is multifaceted and complex, but is determined by discontent over unfulfilled expectations, stereotyping, hardening, impotence, over-specialization, narrow-mindedness and lack of cooperation. Implications for practice that can be inferred from this study: institutionalize conflict capability. This means sensitivity to signals and signs of escalation, recognizing signs of hardening of positions, investing in skills and de-escalation skills like metacommunication and negotiation skills. Leren van huisontruimingen Achtergrond. Een huisontruiming is een ingrijpende gebeurtenis. Over hoe huisontruimingen verlopen en hoe ze zijn te voorkomen is weinig bekend. Methode. Een exploratief beschrijvend onderzoek gebaseerd op zeven casestudies. Resultaten. Het proces tot een huisontruiming is veelvormig en complex maar wordt bepaald door onvrede over niet ingeloste verwachtingen, stereotypering, verharding, onmacht, overspecialisatie, blikvernauwing en gebrekkige samenwerking. De volgende aanwijzing voor de praktijk kan worden afgeleid uit deze studie: institutionaliseer het vermogen om conflicten op constructieve wijze tegemoet te treden. Dit betekent het gevoelig worden voor signalen en voortekenen van escalatie, herkennen van tekenen van verharding van standpunten, het investeren in de-escaleren vaardigheden als metacommunicatie en onderhandelen.
