Abstract
The i.r. and Raman spectra of mercury molybdate and tungstate (HgMoO4 and HgWO4) are reported. They can be interpreted assuming an effectively tetrahedral Mo(W) coordination, although the crystallographic coordination is sixfold (with two long distances). The same model seems to work for the tungstates with wolframite structures, e.g. CdWO4.
