Ortelius’ Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (1570-1641) on verso map texts : Northern Regions

Abstract

Photographs in high resolution (TIFF-files) of the 10 maps examined and discussed in this study allow the reader to check the accuracy of the translation of text blocks as given (in translation only) in Chapter 3, and (Latin original and translation) in Chapter 4. Photographs of map texts for the 10 maps examined of all editions in which these map texts occur, allowing the reader to check the accuracy of the translations given in Chapter 4 Photographs of all Ortelius' map texts compared to those of contemporary and succeeding map makers as discussed in Chapter 7 (to be introduced later).
