The future of: Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart(CAPTCHA)

Abstract

In the first part of this thesis we will introduce the concept of CAPTCHAs, discuss the strengths and weaknesses of human and artificial intelligence, and try to look for useful elements and lessons to be used as a guideline for creating and evaluating new CAPTCHA ideas. The second part discusses prospective and interesting ideas, their concepts, strengths, and weaknesses. We will give more attention to two ideas. A Caption Matching task where users have to choose the appropriate caption for a cartoon out of a number of captions, and a task which tests the user’s preferences based on other (human) user preferences.
