Eerstelijns Professionals in de Utrechtse Aanpak van Radicalisering

Abstract

This qualitative study examined what role the frontline professionals from Utrecht have in the prevention of Islamic radicalising youth. Four subjects were used to investigate this phenomenon. These subjects are detecting possible radicalization, interventions used to prevent radicalization, the contact between the professionals and possible radicalizing youth, and the personal experience of frontline professionals with radicalization. Twelve frontline professionals from Utrecht were interviewed. The findings suggest that the professionals were well trained in detecting of and coping with possible radicalization. Besides this, they still experienced that their role in the prevention of radicalization was limited. However, according to the municipal plan ‘Utrecht zijn we samen’, the professionals do have an essential role in the prevention of radicalization.
