Naastenliefde verplicht! - Een onderzoek naar de bereidheid tot informele solidariteit voor ouderen

Abstract

The existing literature provides a number of factors that affect the willingness to provide informal solidarity for the elderly. Two factors are: activity and proximity. This study examined the extent to which one is willing to provide several activities for the elderly: practical help, administrative help and personal care and which factors influence this willingness. Is also being investigated to what extent one is willing to provide informal solidarity for several groups of elderly: parent(s), other family members, friend and neighbor and which factors influence this willingness. Finally, it is being investigated to what extent one is willing to provide different activities for different groups. Dutch citizens between 18 and 65 years have completed an online questionnaire, after which the results are analyzed through an oneway ANOVA, one sample t test and a RM ANOVA. The main findings are that Dutch citizens have the greatest willingness to provide practical help, followed by administrative help and personal care. In addition, they have the greatest willingness for the parent(s), followed by other family members, a neighbor and friend. This order is also found separately in the activities with the greatest differences between the groups with administrative help and personal care. These findings need to be interpreted with caution, given the shortcomings of the research.
