Homoseksuele jongens en sexting

Abstract

Because of the lack of studies about homosexual youth and sexting, this thesis aimed to investigate the involvement of young gay men with sexting. This thesis is considering their activities on social media and their opinion, consciousness and experiences with sexting and their beliefs about the gayscene. Data for this study were collected through qualitative interviews with 13 Dutch young gay men (18 – 25). The app Grindr seems to be important to meet new people and is helpful to quickly find someone for a sexdate. 12 out of 13 participants are regularly involved in sexting. The results show no negative thoughts or beliefs about the association of individuals with the gayscene. The assumption is partly not confirmed because there seems no link between the opinion and experiences of participants with sexting and their beliefs about the gayscene. Otherwise, the data support the view that sexting seems to be normal behavior because of the prevailing social norm within the gayscene and activities on Grindr. This thesis offered new information about homosexual youth and sexting, which can encourage other studies to do further depth research.
