Abstract
The intercalated disc is a highly orchestrated structure where two cardiomyocytes are connected. Three main structures can be distinguished. Gap junctions (GJs) metabolically and electrically connect cytoplasm of adjacent cardiomyocytes. Adherens junctions (AJs) connect the actin cytoskeleton of adjacent cells.
