The effect of residence, time, and bromide dose on bromide serum concentration.

Abstract

Abstract Background: Bromide is used as an anticonvulsant dogs. Serum levels are used for the clinical management. Hypothesis: A linear correlation exists for bromide dose (mg/kg), domestic place (near sea or inland) , bromide serum level (mg/L) and time. Animals: A total of 376 serum samples were used. Methods: Retrospective analyses based on send in samples. Two-hundred and thirty-one samples were used for an independent analysis (single measurements) and 145 samples (a total of 53 dogs) for a dependent analysis (multiple measurements). Results: The independent data generated a linear model for dose, place, dose-place interactions, Time > 120 days and Time > 120 days-dose interactions. The dependent data showed in dogs with multiple doses and time spans that the serum level is only influenced by time effects during the first period. Formulas were generated for under 120 days+place and above 120 days+place. Conclusions and Clinical Importance: A correlation exists for dose, time, domestic place (near sea or inland) and the achieved bromide serum level.
