THE MORON AND THE SCIENTIST The Moron and the Scientist: Managing Knowledge in a Modern Democracy

Abstract

In this thesis I explore the relations between science, democracy and the public space during the twentieth century in America. In it I compare two different approaches of managing a society: the top-down approach and the bottom-up approach. My argument is that both approaches fail to give a satisfying results in managing complex systems. Therefore a third method has to be reconsidered. One that is neither top-down nor bottom-up.
