Mind the Gap, an analysis of the first ten years of NATO's Mediterranean Dialogue

Abstract

In 1994, NATO initiated a dialogue with seven Mediterranean countries in order to gain mutual understanding and improve cooperation in the fields of military and political security. This thesis reflects on the first ten years of the Mediterranean Dialogue. The reasons for starting the Dialogue are explained as well as the goals that were meant to be achieved. Furtermore, it provides a critical view on what has been achieved so far and highlights various areas of improvement.
